Daily Record

Accolades continue to roll in for former Lawrenceville High School standout Brandt Cochran upon completion of his college basketball career.

Cochran recently finished his senior season at College of the Ozarks - an NAIA Division II school in Missouri - where he was a multi-time All-Region player and league player of the week recipient.

He averaged 19.5 points, 5.1 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game in 33 games during his senior season, 32 of which were starts. He also led the team with 90.5 percent shooting at the free throw line (105-116), while he also shot 43 percent from the floor (217-508), including 40 percent from three-point range (106-266). He scored over 30 points in a game three times, including a season-high 36 against Bellevue (Neb.) Dec. 29 and reached double figures in all but two games. He posted a season-high 16 assists against Midland (Neb.) Dec. 30 and had a season-high 10 rebounds against Ecclesia Feb. 18.

Those numbers garnered him National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) First Team All-Region honors, while also earning Association of Independent Institutions Player of the Week three times, in addition to receiving AII and NAIA Champion of Character awards.

Last week, he earned two more honors, as Cochran was named to the NAIA Division II All-American Honorable Mention list, as well as the NCCAA All-American Third Team. Cochran was one of 33 players on the NAIA Honorable Mention list, while 10 players each were on the First, Second and Third teams. He was one of five players on the NCCAA Third Team, while five were also chosen for the First and Second teams.

For his career, Cochran posted 1,784 points, 423 assists, 390 rebounds and 123 steals, while shooting 46 percent and making 310 three-pointers.

Meanwhile, another former LHS athlete, Clay Goodwin, was having a strong start to his junior baseball season at Rockford University before the COVID-19 outbreak cut his season short.

Goodwin pitched in three games, allowing one unearned run on zero hits, while walking three and striking out seven in four innings of work.

His last outing was his best and longest of the season, as he walked one and struck out five in two scoreless innings of an 11-8 win over Wittenberg March 13.

Goodwin's information was omitted from the previous college update article in last week's issue.
