Daily Record

EAST PEORIA - One fifth of the contingent that competed in Sectional D for Parkview Junior High School's wrestling team managed to stay alive and earn berths in the state tournament this weekend.

Parkview took 15 wrestlers to East Peoria Central Junior High School Saturday and three of them were able to place high enough to qualify for the IESA Class 1A State Finals.

Top finisher for PJHS was Dylan Camden, who finished second at 167 pounds. Camden pinned his first two opponents - Hunter Hancock of Litchfield and Mason Forsythe of Roxana - before losing a 5-2 decision to Lincoln's Wyatta Mammen in the championship bout.

Two other wrestlers - Hudson Meek and Dylan Aten - also qualified by finishing fourth at 80 and 90, respectively.

Meek went 3-2 at 80, pinning Stanford Olympia's Ryan Ballinger in his opening match, then beating Petersburg PORTA's Wyatt Knowles 2-0 before being pinned by Stanford Olympia's Mateo Martinez in the semifinals. Meek came back to score a 2-1 win over Rochester's Luke Gribbins before being pinned by Carlyle's Tyson Waughtel in the third-place match.

Aten opened with a loss via pinfall to Roxana's Lyndon Thies in his first match, but came back to pin El Paso-Gridley's Ethan Cavallo and win by major decision over Petersburg PORTA's Mike Minor, 18-9, before losing to Princeton's Ace Christiansen in the third-place match, 8-2.

Also for Parkview, Drew Seitzinger went 1-1 at 70, Marcus Hyre was 1-1 at 95, Isaac Foster went 1-2 at 85, Nick Morehead was 0-1 at 85, Gary Butler went 0-1 at 100, Max Moore went 0-1 at 119, Tyson Lucas went 0-1 at 135, Silas Parrott was 0-1 at 145, Kasen Ochs was 0-1 at 155, Alex Stephens was 0-2 at 135, Dalton Spahn went 0-2 at 185 and Noah Kamplain went 0-2 at 215.
