SHELBYVILLE - Progress continues to be made for Parkview Junior High School's wrestling team.

In just the third year of existence, the Braves claimed their first team postseason hardware, by virtue of winning the IESA Class A Shelbyville Regional Saturday.

"Today our kids showed what it is to be a team," head coach Sam Hyre said. "They prepared together, wrestled together and won together the way you should. The last few years we have really tried to emphasize the importance of working hard together on the mat and hopefully that lesson sticks with them in life as well."

The Braves placed 18 wrestlers among the top four in their respective weight classes on their way to amassing 268 points.

That was just enough to edge Mt. Zion, who finished with 261.5, while Shelbyville was third with 163.5 points. Rounding out the field were Warrensburg-Latham (123.5), Carlyle (93) and Mt. Carmel (57.5).

Among the 15 that advanced for PJHS, five of them earned Regional championships. Finishing first for PJHS were Dylan Aten at 90 pounds, Alex Stephens at 135, Silas Parrott at 145, Dylan Camden at 167 and Dalton Spahn at 185.

Placing second for the Braves were Hudson Meek at 80, Nick Morehead at 85, Marcus Hyre at 95, Max Moore at 119, Tyson Lucas at 135 and Noah Kamplain at 215.

Coming in third were Drew Seitzinger (70), Isaac Foster (85), Gary Butler (100) and Kasen Ochs (155), while finishing fourth and serving as alternates for the Sectional round were Cale Seitzinger (80), Logan Baker (95) and Wade Miller (145).

"Altogether it was a really great day with great performances from all the kids," Hyre said. "I couldn't be prouder of the wrestlers, the coaches and all the community support we have received this year."

Parkview will compete in Sectional D at East Peoria Central Junior High Saturday at 9 a.m.

Team scores - Parkview 268, Mt. Zion 261.5, Shelbyville 163.5, Warresnburg-Latham 123.5, Carlyle 93, Mt. Carmel 57.5.
