Local churches adjust services due to COVID-19 virus

LAWRENCEVILLE - As the global pandemic regarding the COVID-19 coronavirus continues to top the news, several local churches in Lawrence County have altered or canceled future services and activities.

• The Lawrenceville Free Methodist Church located at 1107 10th Street, has canceled its Saturday Lenten Prayer Breakfast set for 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 21. The church has also announced that there is no public assembly on Sunday, March 22 and Sunday, March 29. A sermon by Pastor Russ Veldman, will be streamed on Facebook Live at 9:30 a.m. each Sunday while the church is closed to the public.

• The First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ located at 1407 State Street in Lawrenceville has canceled its service for Sunday, March 22. An abbreviated sermon will be posted to Facebook on Sunday morning. The church's Facebook page can be found at: First Christian Church - Disciples of Christ.

• The First United Methodist Church located at 1015 12th Street in Lawrenceville will be closed until further notice. Sunday services, including Singspiration, all group activities and meetings at the church will be suspended until the church reopens. Lawrenceville First UMC will provide updates at the end of March on its Facebook page, First United Methodist Church.

• New Life Christian Church located at 1406 6th Street in Lawrenceville has canceled all services and activities until further notice.

• The St. Francisville United Methodist Church has canceled all services for Sunday, March 22 and Sunday, March 29.

• Central Christian Church, 303 Buchanan Drive in Lawrenceville, has suspended all onsite activities until further notice. The sermons by Carson Root will be posted on the church's Facebook page at, Central Christian Church. The audio is also available at www.centralchristianchurchlc.com. The Easter egg hunt planned for April 4 has also been canceled.

• The Bridgeport First United Methodist Church located at 400 N. Main Street, will move its Sunday morning worship service from the sanctuary to the church's Facebook page on Sunday, March 22 and Sunday, March 29. The page can be found at Bridgeport First United Methodist Church. All meetings at the church are also canceled until at least Tuesday, March 31.

• Billett United Methodist Church, 1 N. Railroad Street, Lawrenceville, will deliver its sermon on John 9 via video format on Sunday, March 22. Services will also be altered on Sunday, March 29.

• The Bridgeport Free Methodist Church and Island Free Methodist Church will hold its Sunday services on Sunday, March 22 and Sunday, March 29 via a new Facebook group called "Bridgeport and Island Online Worship Services." A recorded message should appear by 11 a.m. The Sunday, March 22 message is entitled, "Finding Peace by Drawing Closer to God" from Psalm 34 and Ephesians 4:4-9.

• Bridgeport Assembly of God, 411 Jefferson Street, has canceled all activities and services until further notice.

• Shiloh Baptist Church in Bridgeport has canceled all meetings and events including Sunday morning worship services for Sunday, March 22 and Sunday, March 29. The church will livestream on its Facebook page at Shiloh Baptist Church at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. The church office will remain open daily as usual. The Safety Committee will meet again on Tuesday, March 31 to review the plan of action.

• Beulah United Methodist Church in Sumner will not hold in person worship on Sunday, March 22 or Sunday, March 29. The church will livestream at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday to its Facebook page, www.facebook.com/mybeulahchurch.

• The Presbyterian Church in Lawrenceville has canceled all services and meetings until April 1. This includes Sunday morning services on March 22 and March 29.

• First Christian Church in Bridgeport has canceled all services on Sunday, March 22 and Sunday, March 29. The public is invited to tune into 99.3 FM/910 AM WAKO Radio at 9 a.m. to hear pre-recorded services.

• The Birds Free Methodist Church will close its building indefinitely. All church services on Sunday, March 22 will be streamed on Facebook at Birds FMC. Sunday school is at 9:30 a.m. and Worship is at 10:30 a.m.

• New Hope Christian Church in Bridgeport will hold its weekly services for Sunday, March 22 online at 10 a.m. on youtube.com. A page will be set up on the church's website at www.newhopegps.org/sunday-morning-service. A video will also be available on Sunday evening for the youth group.
