End of an era
The original “Methodist Old Folks Home” building, the first of what is now many buildings and additions to the United Methodist Village, has been officially closed, marking the end of an era. Known in previous years as Holden Center, the building has become an historical landmark in Lawrenceville. The remainder of the campus will remain open and continues to grow and expand, UMV officials said Monday. The historic buildling was used for almost 86 years.

Rural Health Clinic director to host next Dine With A Doc
LAWRENCEVILLE - Long-time local doctor and medical director of the Lawrence County Health Department's Rural Heatlh Clinic, Gary Carr, will be the featured physician at the Feb. 3 Dine With A Doc program.

Senior Education Ministries, Inc., in partnership with Lawrence County Senior Citizens Center, schedules the Dine with a Doc program for the first Friday of every month from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Lawrence County Senior Citizens Center.

Lincoln Trail College to host free health awareness day Feb. 8
ROBINSON - To call attention to the importance of personal health and safety, Lincoln Trail College will host a free Health Awareness Day for the public from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 8 in Williams Hall.

The free event will feature 25 booths that will focus on: blood sugar and blood pressure testing, stress management, hearing and eye protection, electrical safety, proper lifting techniques, chiropractic services, patient rights, organ donation, dental awareness, nutrition and healthy cooking, and more.

Edwards County staves off Salukis, 77-71
BRIDGEPORT - Red Hill High School's basketball team battled back from a 14-point halftime deficit to tie the game on four occasions Wednesday, but could never get over the hump in a 77-71 loss to Edwards County in the consolation semifinals of the Little Illini Conference tournament.
